Kawneer has via a third party assessor undertaken a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its Runcorn manufacturing facility/process and completed Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s) across its 3 main product systems.
An LCA helps companies understand how their product, materials and systems impact on the environment, highlighting how they can improve performance. These Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies and EPD’s support BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) assessments, enabling architects, specifiers and building owners/developers to fully evaluate a company/product prior to its incorporation into a project.
As outlined above, Kawneer has published Environmental Product Declarations for its 3 main product systems – there is one for each of the major systems, namely curtain wall, door systems and window systems. Each EPD discloses the average impacts and resources used to supply a ‘standard’ Kawneer product/system.
Each EPD looks at the impacts of raw material usage, the impacts created during the in-house aluminium extrusion process (e.g. energy usage) and finally impacts at end of life, e.g. recovery and disposal.
The final item is the LCA Final Report which is the explanation of what is a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). It’s about the methodology/modelling/science behind the LCA. Copies of the LCA Final Report are available via Kawneer Online. Click on the link here to create a User Account.
